About Kathy S. Cohen
I am the grandchild of immigrants from Poland, Romania, and Lithuania. They came to the U.S. to escape persecution and settled in Pittsburgh where both of my parents were born and raised. My mother was a school teacher and my father served in the Air Force during the Korean War and then went to law school as part of the GI bill. I was born in the suburbs of Pittsburgh and ultimately we moved to Boca Raton, FL when I was in middle school. I graduated from Brandeis University and received a Masters degree, Doctorate of Divinity and rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College. I served congregations in Cincinnati OH and Westport CT before coming to Roanoke in 1996. I retired from Temple Emanuel as Rabbi Emerita in June of 2025. I am the very proud mother (-in-law) of three adult children and their spouses - Sarah and her fiance Ben, Joey and his husband Alan, and Ariel and her husband Derek. Most importantly, I am the grandma of 18 month old Hailey.
