About Lisa R. Surles-Law
A graduate of Hampton University, I earned a B.A. in Biology and an M.A. in Community Agency Counseling and began my career educating students and teachers. For more than 34 years, I have worked in science education and STEM workforce development at Jefferson Lab, where I have seen firsthand the importance of strong partnerships between our schools, community, and employers in preparing students for their futures. My commitment to education and the Newport News community has also led me to serve on the Newport News School Board, representing the Central District, and on the YMCA Executive Board. During my time on the School Board, I have had the privilege of serving in leadership roles, including Vice Chair and Chair. Throughout my career and public service, my focus has remained the same: connecting students with opportunities and helping ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education that prepares them for college, careers, and life.
